Gardening In Community

Let's Grow Together

Mission

The LIFE Farms will serve as both a community garden and market in one of many food deserts in the city. Our mission is to improve the quality of life for families by implementing sustainable agricultural practices, create jobs and volunteer opportunities, and increase community involvement and support. We hope to be a place used to address social, economic, and environmental disparities and a couple of the ways we do that is by accepting SNAP EBT payments and hiring marginalized members of the community due to age or background.

Fresh Seasonal Produce

The garden will provide fresh produce to be distributed through the CSA, sold at 805 Sayers St. and the local farmers’ market, and around the community to households in need. As a physical representation of the use and integration of various, alternative regenerative farming practices, we plan to provide better tasting and more nutrient dense food as we progress. Members of the community are welcomed and encouraged to tour the garden, as well as volunteer some of their time by signing up to be a "garden worker bee".

What is Double Up Food Bucks Texas?

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) participants can earn additional dollars for purchasing any fresh produce with the Double Up Food Bucks program.

With Lufkin Urban Garden & Market taking part in Double Up Food Bucks, it’s easier than ever for SNAP guests to take advantage of the program and double their buying power when it comes to fresh fruits and vegetables.
For each dollar SNAP customers spend on eligible items, an equivalent amount of food bucks will be provided to spend on fruits and vegetables. Each food buck incentive is valued at $1, with a maximum dollar-for-dollar match of $30 per day.
